Meet the Ninja Nurse
I have been working in health care for the past 20 plus years. I began my career as an ADN nurse working in the CCU. I went on to obtain my BSN and finally my MSN in nursing anesthesia. Prior to becoming a CRNA I spent my nursing career working in critical care at both a community hospital and a level one trauma center. While trying to figure out what type of nurse I wanted to be when I grew up, I briefly served as nurse manager of the CCU as well as did small stent in case management working with worker’s compensation patients. It didn’t take me long to realize that I was a hands-on person who liked acute care situations and wanted to expand on my practice autonomy. Thus, the path to become a CRNA was the logical choice for me.
One thing I was taught by my parents and have strived to pass it on to my children and others around me is the importance of having a good work ethic. No matter what job or task you choose to do you should attempt to do the best of your ability. This is important no matter what career path you take but it should be mandatory for those in the nursing profession. I often say “we’re not flipping hamburgers” when I reference how we should view the responsibility we possess as nurses. I mean no disrespect to any cook or other profession, I simply mean if we make a mistake someone’s well-being is on the line, it can’t be fixed as easily as correcting an under cooked burger.
I view nursing as a gift. The ability to care for others at times when they are most vulnerable is not something that should be taken lightly. If you’re reading this, I take it you too have chosen the profession of nursing or are considering it. The purpose of my blog to help guide you to be the best nurse you can be. I hope to provide you with the tools and guidance to be not just a nurse but to B A NINJA NURSE!
